The beautiful seaside village Plakias is located on the southern coastline of Crete and overlooking the Libyan Sea. Plakias is a popular tourist destination, built on a fertile plain with olive groves that the Kotsifos River forms between the hills Psili Korifi and Kouroupa. At the end of the 20th century, the village was a small fishing village, but it was developed touristy and especially since the 60s, when its beach was a pole of attraction for hippies.

It is also worth visiting the historic Preveli Monastery with its exotic palm trees and its famous lake, which ends up in the sea. Here you can swim at the crystal, clear and turquoise waters.

From Plakias, hiring a car, you can make many excursions either to archaeological sites like the ancient city of Lamon, Phaistos, Agia Triada and Gortynas, or to impressive gorges such as Kourtaliotiko with its beautiful waterfalls and Kotsifos.
